Yeah! Here's my splits
46:43 = 11:40 mm
44.23 = 11:05 mm
Better than my 12 mm last week. It's an improvement and I'll take that! And next week will be just a bit longer of a run.
I don't know if I should attribute the better time to:
1. I was trying the Ultima electrolyte drink instead of plain water or
2. training or
3. both
I think I'm going for Door # 3!
No squats though. I tried, but decided it would be better for my ego and my legs to just give them a rest after 8 miles!

Sluggish and not stepping up to the plate
Wow. Today I just feel sluggish. Work is SLOW. Nothing to do all day. Very boring and extreme worrisome, but there's nothing I can do about it. Not really.
I'm planning another 8 mile run tonight, the same route as last week. But the thing I have going with Carol, Jane & Kari where we journal ALL our food, our exercises, our alcoholic intake, etc has really made me accountable for certain things. This is the 3rd week in a row that I passed on the weekly donuts a rep brings in. OMG they looked so good this morning. Chocolate cake donuts with chocolate frosting. YUMMMMYYY. But I passed.
I'm rambling today. Hopefully my run tonight will be better than last week. My legs are still a bit sore from yesterday's squats. I did 30 at home and a total of 70 at BC. We're supposed to do 350 this week (see above). That's 250 more to go. What's my goal for a pace tonight? HMP + 20. That will be roughtly an 11 mm pace. Last week was a consistant 12 mm pace. I don't know if this is doable. But I'll try to at least have a better time than last week. Then when I get home, squats.
Wow-really don't want to be here today. Can't get out of the funk. Hopefully tonight will put me in a better place.

Workouts for the last two days:
Monday was pushing an OVERWEIGHT Hummer from Baldwin to Michelinda. I really think Eric needs to either 1) get a smaller car or 2) know that the idiot light means you need to stop at the gas station.
It really was a fun workout. Goofy but got the heart rate up enough to know I never want a Hummer.
Eric asked why 8 miles the next night (Tuesday). He thinks it's just junk miles. But it's not. At least not to me. 8 Miles is a hell of a long way and I need to know that I can get my legs to go that far. I'm masking this under a catagory of Tempo running.
Unfortunately I couldn't get them to go as fast as I wanted. I did a consistant 12mm pace, even though the first half was uphill. I thought I would gain time on the way back, but it was 48 min up and 48 min back. I tried some Fartleks the last mile but I just couldn't get my legs to go. So I walked, jogged, walked, jogged. In my mind I felt like I was doing Fartleks though.

Workout Calender
I don't know who's idea this was, but Jane and Carol decided to "compete" to lose weight. The idea is to keep a food journal, keep out workout logged/blogged etc. I was asked if I wanted to join this little escapade and "OK" just slipped out of my mouth without fully thinking this through. So starting tomorrow, I am logging my food (but not necessarily blogging it), committing myself to working out at least 4 times a week, etc. We must eat fruits or veggies with each meal in order for the points to count. If not, point deductions will be made.
What will be the hardest part? Winning! HA! No, really I think the hardest part is staying committed. And the food. It is so much easier not eating healthy.

So it is now Jan 6th...six days into the new year and my exercise "program" has been 2 days of running. Last night was Test-In at bootcamp. It was running from the bleachers around the park (unk. mileage) 50 dips, 50 lunges, 50 pushups, 50 broadjumps and 50 bear crawls. Time? HMMMM that was yesterday. I think I heard 22 minutes. But maybe it was 28. I'll find out during mid-cycle testing.
Today was a 5K-Time 32:00. I have to take 3 mintues off of that time! By when? Let's say...in 2 months. That should be around Derby day.

New Year - Old Goals!
This year started out with an explosion! We (me, Jane and Carol) planned the Midnight adventure that lasted well past midnight. I didn't get home until after 3:30! I haven't stayed out that late in years. And I sure felt that. It took a few days to recover from that! Of course the next day I had to cook and be at my cousin's house. New Years is a major holiday in the Japanese culture.
Then on Saturday some of us took a 30 mile ride down the path. We started in Downey, rode to the beach for some good grub, then back up to the cars. What fun! The cold morning made it a bit hard to get motivated, but the sun came out and created a great day to ride. Even on the way back we didn't get much winds. It was pretty calm the whole time.
Now it's Sunday and the last day of my vacation. Bummer. But it's not a day of rest. Nope. It's a day to tear the house apart to give it a thorough cleaning. So no rest for me or Dave. I'm procrastinating because most of it is my clutter that needs to be organized. Hey, I think the table is the perfect place for...everything that doesn't have a place. Opps. Maybe I need to go on that organize it show. Or maybe I just need less stuff. Hmmm. I vote for the show. OK I'll stop procrastinating.
Hey did I mention we are thinking of doing a Summer Solstice adventure? Just a short one. I think we'll start from our house. I already have 2 locations in mind and clues and games to go with them. We only have 5 months to get that going. But first I want to have the back pavers put in so people have a place to sit. I have that location marked out in my mind. Now it's a matter of getting it dug out, the wood border placed, sand put in, and then the pavers.
I also need to mark the races we want to do this year. We are cutting back, so I think it will be the AR in April, Dave is doing Wilson. I'm skipping Wilson this year since the last 2 years in a row I've injured my knee. Sucks. Maybe I'll do the Pasadena Half. That's in March. The Firecracker Run in Feb. We are doing the Maui Half with Dave's dad in Sept. Better get this all marked in the calender first. And we have said we will ride miles on the road bike at least once a month.
OK I'LL STOP PROCRASTINATING. What a way to start the new year.

It's been 2 weeks since my last blog, but it feels like 2 months. So much has happened. Mainly the holidays. Christmas was spent with my family...and pretty uneventful. Then the BIG plans. New Year's Eve!
Normally my New Years is spent in front of the TV watching the ball drop, then off to bed. But not this year. Jane, Carol and I planned our Inaugural Midnight Mauraders Year-to-Year adventure. We has so much fun planning this. All the evil deeds we hoped to put our friends through, Loving put our friends through. It kept getting bigger and bigger and bigger, more checkpoints, more tasks, more ideas. People RSVPing, then having to cancel, others RSVPing that day, more undecided, more bringing friends. In the end, we had 13 people participating in the race and a total of 17 in all. We figured (I was actually a bit worried this might be too short) that the fastest people would finish in just over an hour, most in about 1 1/2 hours. Opps. We were a bit wrong with that one. The first finishers were in about 1 hr 15 min. The last team was in about 2 hr 15. But every minute was fun, full of laughs, comraderie, bonding.
We already have ideas going around for the end of 2009, and it's only Jan 2nd! HA!
This morning I woke up thinking about a Summer Solstice run. Maybe from our house, if we get the back pavers put in. Otherwise we don't have anywhere to put people. Right now if we get more than 12 people, we have to take numbers to sit in the backyard! I can have Dave string lights across the driveway and we can put tables there, just provide something to level the tables since the driveway slopes downhill :)~
I would love to post a picture of the event, but I've become so bad in taking pictures. Bummer!
