For some time I've been hoping we would be back at the academy. I like having crossfit added to the mix of workouts. Well last night I got my wish. I'm sure my arms are wonder what my brain was thinking.
First set of Tabatas
Med Ball slams x8
Walking lunges
row
tire jumps
The hardest parts of this set were the Med ball slams, even though it was the first thing I started with. Getting the 16 lb med ball above my head with control, and then having to slam it on the ground got tiring, FAST. Then the tire jumps, being last, were a bit challenging. There were times I was afraid I would lose my balance and some part of me would end up meeting the concrete. By that time, I wasn't willing (or able to walk over to a shorter tire) for step ups. So I continued jumping, but slower and doing less in the 20 sec time span.
Second set of tabatas-Dam med ball event
Wall ball slams where we tried to knock down the wall. But that quickly got changed to push ups.
Over to Wall balls. I hate wall balls! It is always one of my weakest things getting that ball above 8'.
Long post for a quick reflection. I love having that variety of crossfit and bootcamp. But it really shows a difference in required effort to complete. Bootcamp has the running (yes my mantra is still "I hate running with a passion") and it's outdoors and it's social. But crossfit has the intensity that you just can't get around, even with scaling the intensity is still high. Love it all.
Here's a reflection on my earlier post and has to do with a conversation I had with Dave on the way home last night. You can stop reading here if you want. I was remembering what I was like when I was just 18+. Yes I had played team sports when I was in grade school so I knew what it was like to be a team player. But at 19 or 20, I would NEVER had joined bootcamp. NEVER. And if I did, it would NEVER have been this one. I would have picked one, if I was forced to go to bootcamp, that was "fun", easier, incorporated more music, etc. You get the picture? My free time was spent partying, socializing, dating, clubbing, etc. In between all the fun, was college. So to look at this program from a 19 or 20 yo, I am giving these young people credit for doing. Yes there's griping and whining and scaling and creative counting. I do the griping and whining, but it's either just in my head, or here on the blog. But I have to give them credit for something I don't think I would ever do if I were the same age. Everything, except the creative counting. That one, I would hope, I had the integrity at that age to just suck it up and accept low numbers.
