Ultra Minimalist Firecracker 10K
The first run I did in these shoes totalled 800 M. My second run was a 10K. Yeah maybe not too smart and I may not have learned from the last time.
The first time I ran in a brand new pair of shoes was a stiff pair of Mizunos durng a 10K. The minute that 10K was over, those shoes were off my feet and were on the way back to the running store for something I could wear without crippling me.
That was a few years ago and the pain of running in those shoes are in the back of my memory bank - way back.
I ordered these shoes a few weeks before the run, hoping I would get them in time to do a few runs before the 10k. They ended up being on backorder so when they finally arrived, just 3 days before the race, I was so excited - and a bit concerned since it was just days before a hilly 10K.
I ripped open the package and barely stuffed my feet into these shoes. I kept telling myself that maybe I could get away with a thinner pair of socks. When I had to go and get longer shoelaces, I should have put the shoes back in the box and slapped on the return label. I felt like Cinderella's sister and the shoe didn't fit. Not only were they too small, they were also too narrow for my Fred Flinstone feet. But I was a bit too stubborn and thought I could fool myself.
So I ran 6.2 miles in them anyway.
My thoughts- I'd really love them if they fit so I'm willing to drive 88 miles RT to try the men's version of these, hoping the wider width will work and the fact that the smallest men's size is 2.5 size bigger than my street shoes, instead of the normal 1 full size bigger I usually get for running shoes.
I guess I'm on my way to minimalist running.
Here's my review of these "Ultra Minimlist" shoe.
-5.5 oz - Loved it!
-Super thin sole - Love it!
Today I feel the soles of my feet tingle a bit, but I've read this is normal. It's not painful and I know this feeling when I run barefoot on concrete sidewalks (not normally done and NEVER for any distance). It's the muscles learning to be more responsive - at least according to one site I read.
What I'm surprised about is my left heel doesn't hurt. It's been hurting since I've been switching between my VF Bikilas, my minimalist NB WT100 trail shoes and my normal Asics for pronators. Days after a run, it hurts to walk. From what I've read, I really don't think it's Plantar Fascitis, especially since it sometimes goes away if I rub my Achilles tendon and/or soleus. Hey-on short people sometimes it's hard to tell! Foam rolling hasn't worked lately, but it used to help with the pain. So lately I just ignore the pain and it will eventually go away in about a week.
I don't know if this is an anomoly, the pain hasn't kicked in yet, or because these are minimalist and are working. There's no pain in the heels. And no pain in my calves which is what I was expecting with minimalist shoes and major hills.
Basically I like these shoes and hope the shoe manufacturers will start to produce minimalist shoes in Wides-PLEASE!
